Happy 2019! We hope everyone had a fun and restful winter break. It's hard to believe the first semester is at an end. We will start the New Year off by reviewing our procedures, routines and expectations in the classroom. We will reinforce the importance of always trying our best on our work as well by continuing to strengthen academic stamina.
Shared Reading
We will begin with Unit 4. Please see the attached outline of the specific skills this unit. Weekly Reading Overview (Unit 4)
Spelling:
In spelling, we will continue to introduce the pattern on Mondays and test on Fridays. It is important that students are practicing spelling words several times throughout the week.
Writing:
Our writing workshops are going strong. We will be focusing on descriptive writing and then work on some more research toward the end of the month.
Math:
We continue to focus on subtraction and addition facts. Third quarter will start with 3-digit addition then subtraction. This will be the main focus in January. Toward the end of the month, we will introduce geometry.
Unit Studies:
We will now start another science unit- this time over solids and liquids. We will learn different properties of each (using some tricky vocabulary words), practice sorting small solids, and do some experimenting using water and solids and water and other liquids. We are now keeping a science notebook, where students write about the investigations we do and their outcomes.
