Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Met with sponsors (Dr. Lucas, Mike Goldin) to discuss designs
important feedback concerning the actuator design (aka operator: need to remove potential for outside forces to falsely trigger the head, choose a design that relies on geometry change that can only be triggered by the buoy or the weight)
important feedback concerning the races design: increasing friction won't actually be as effective as we think in fixing the warping, centering the holes and adding more material where necessary could also solve the warping, heating certainly isn't necessary
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Managed to set up regular meetings with sponsor
Developed "Design Goals" to properly design cam and follower
preliminary FEA completed - not so good since follower in current configuration can only deform .01" on either side without failure
more consideration being given towards materials
Developed "Design Goals" to properly design operator (WIP)
Received our comments on the report!
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Complete rudimentary designs for operator, cam/follower, and races
Races - Andrew
Cam/follower - Chelwei
Operator - Tam/Mithulesh
Successfully pass the proof-of-concept review with Dr. Ghazinejad
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Dr. Lucas, Zoom, 5/8 - while this is a design class, analysis is still important
Mike Goldin, Zoom, 5/8 - consider an operator design that can only be moved or actuated by the buoy or the weight, preferably by a change in geometry
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Dr. Ghazinejad, Zoom, 5/6 - meet more frequently with sponsor and urge them to take a more active role in the design review process
Set up meetings with Mike Goldin (Friday noons)
Relayed feedback to Prof. Lucas - this will likely become a discussion amongst the three parties
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Risks and Areas of Concern
Operator design - two potential modifications being considered, while it's not as high risk it could still be a failure mode
Cam and follower design will be heavily contingent on material properties, lots of options and potential issues
