156B Week 9
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
All motor components that we are responsible for have been manufactured and tested.
However, the biggest unknown at this point are the coils.
James has been attempting to manufacture coils from the ribbon cable that he has, however it is not going very well.
So far, he has not been able to produce any working coils
In the case that the ribbon cable will not work, James will make some stand-in coils from traditional wire that we can use
While we are still waiting on the coils, the coil inserts have been successfully machined and have been test fitted with the PETG stator
However, the hex head of the coil inserts need to be machined down a few millimeters to allow for the fluid reservoir to sit flush with the stator.
This shouldn't be a problem and should be completed soon.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Received softer o-ring stock (50A) and made new o-ring to fit the motor.
Met with sponsor James at Terry's manufacturing facility (AKA... his home)
Helped finish machining coil inserts
Finished tapping the stator
Received more detailed instruction on the motor controller and how to wire it to the rest of the motor
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Finalize CAD and engineering drawings of parts (Nick)
Get familiar with motor controller and wiring of motor (Group)
Receive finished coils from sponsor (Kiernan)
Start final assembly and wiring of motor (Group)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
5/23 in-person - met with sponsor James at his house to built some things, he let us know that the plan he had for coils fell through, but we left our wire with him. Not sure if he will be able to complete coils on time, but most likely will not finish them in correct configuration.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
N/A - had a meeting last week to discuss concerns with sponsor, but we believe most of the concerns have been addressed. We have met with sponsor this week and believe if they complete their promised parts, we will be able to finish on time.

Risks and Areas of Concern
Biggest area of concern is if we are going to get working coils soon.
Even if we do get working coils, we are concerned whether or not we will have enough time to wire the motor up, troubleshoot, and get it working.
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Full wiring diagram of the motor controller
We have been able to figure out for the most part how it operates, but there is no wiring diagram available
Schedule
Goals for next week are:
Finalize engineering drawings by 5/30
Receive and assemble coils by 5/30
Start final assembly and wiring by 6/2
