156B Week 4
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Recall that the sponsors determined it most beneficial to split into two teams, one which was focused on building a functional, locking station that would be used for further user testing, and another group that would focus on RFID technology, the locking mechanism, and integrating both of those into the station
Both of the teams have completed the tasks allotted to them and need to next worry about integration
Accomplishments from Previous Week
A simplistic version of a web app has been created that allows users to check out a board. They receive a code after entering their email and phone number
2 locking mechanisms have been fully designed, one of which has been 3D printed as a proof of concept
The RFID patches and sensors have been purchased and tested.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Eric- Now that a proof of concept has been completed for his design, he will develop a more robust version out of stronger materials that will likely be used on our final version of the station
Amber- Will complete a proof of concept of her design (sliding mechanism) and fabricate the design, and will finalize the method by which we are connecting the RFID tags to the board and the connectivity between the readers and the station
Nic- Will expand upon the design considerations for the final walker that were discussed in meeting on Sunday and will make a final 3D model
Jason- Will work on integrating the locking mechanisms into the station. The goal is to have both versions of the locking mechanism on the same walker so we can do tests on both designs
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Last meeting was on Sunday 1/26
There are concerns about the strength of a plastic material for a lock, so we will be making extra locks and performing stress tests
Now that we have developed multiple locking designs, the focus needs to be on integration.
They want to do field tests as soon as possible, so integrating these designs into the existing station as soon as possible is of the utmost importance
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Professor T. was concerned about the method of manufacturing, but we have got that covered
He also was unsure about the 3D model of the locking mechanism that we presented, not knowing if it was all one flat sheet or if there was any 3D components to it. Now that the proof of concept has been developed he will be able to see exactly what is going on
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
N/A: All of our last student comments were addressed in last week's report
Risks and Areas of Concern
It is still Winter, so testing this at the beach may be a problem, although the weather has been very pleasant lately
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Schedule
By this week, have two fully-functioning stand-alone locking mechanisms
After they are developed, their connectivity with the RFID and Arduino will need to be established
Integrating them into the station will be the next step
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
175.51 spent of 2000
1824.29 remaining
Progress on Report and Webpage
Report has been updated to provide a framework that we can just fill information into now
The impact on society has been updated
Progress report completed on website
