156B Week 3
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
The sponsors have discovered that now is a time where we need more customer feedback to continue with the user experience
Two computer science students have been added onto the project to work on the app and assist with hardware-software implementation.
A locking mechanism has been designed and CADed, and will be lasercut in a larger scale as a proof of concept
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Locking design and CAD completed
Arduino/phone connectivity heavily researched with helpful results
RFID scanners and tags chosen
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Prove concept of locking mechanism with acrylic (Nic and Eric)
Purchase and test RFID tags with scanners (Amber)
Establish a connection between arduino and phone (Jason)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Sponsors have instructed us to isolate our attention to the locking mechanism and RFID connectivity
With that instruction, we will be waiting to iterate our overall frame design, and will focus our efforts on the internals
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Students were concerned because the app seemed like a large undertaking for 4 undergraduate mechanical engineering students, but when they were informed that we had a 2-person CS team, they were no longer concerned.
Risks and Areas of Concern
If proof of concept does not work, the design for the locking mechanism will need to be reworked
The locking mechanism depends on a servo motor. If the servo motor is not strong enough to keep the pin in the locked position, the design for the locking mechanism will need to be reworked
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Schedule
Complete proof of concept for locking mechanism by Wednesday 1/23
Purchase and test scanners and tags by Friday 1/25
Establish connection between phone and Arduino by Friday 1/25
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
136.96 spent of 2000
1863.04 remaining
Progress on Report and Webpage
Week 2 report completed. It included background information and design constraints for our project
