*156B Week 1
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Final type of design has been determined (vertical orientation of surfboards), and a prototype that we have dubbed "The Walker" was built out of PVC piping components
The walker can be seen on the home page of this website.
Over Winter Break, we set up The Walker at La Jolla Shores to gauge interest and hear feedback for design and business model
Accomplishments from Previous Week
After preliminary field tests, we were able to glean very useful information from potential users.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
By next week we want to create multiple designs for a locking mechanism- Amber
Eric will do a literature search to find more information on RFID and Bluetooth technology that we can use on our station
Nic and Jason are reworking the overall design of the station to create a more robust station and improve the user experience

The locking mechanism is the most important step that we need to make right now. That will be the most innovative element of our project, so either more design work or a more comprehensive literature search must be conducted

Using fins to lock in the surfboards may not work because they are easily removed- to counteract this we will find an epoxy or glue that can lock in the fins.
In addition, we are still coming up with potential design ideas that may not use the fins to lock in the board
Risks and Areas of Concern
Locking mechanism
We need to find a one-use system so people cannot just steal the boards after they have used them once
