156B Week 5
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Second prototype reviewed 5/2/2018
Updated strapping.
Leg straps.
Designed for clamp attachment.
Sponsor really likes design, recommends a longer clamp however the girdle will be good with longer leg straps.
New clamp has arrived, testing will begin within the week to determine usefulness.
Designing of the plate base upon which the slotted U-Ring or clamp attaches to the girdle will wait until the girdle and clamp design are finalized.
Medical grade silicon applied to the clamp tips to increase the friction between the clamp and applicator will wait until the clamp design is finalized.
Pursue original clamp and slotted U-Ring design concurrently to see which performs optimally
Continue rapid prototyping. Prototype #3 scheduled for the weekend before week 7.
First test on patient scheduled for Friday 5/4/2018.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Tested putting the plastic supports into Girdle
Provides more rigidity
Several AutoCAD and 3D figures created to better illustrate design and convey information
First draft of report nearly finished.
First draft of webpage nearly finished.
Acquired new lighter and smaller clamping arm. Initial impression is that it is very promising for use in our design.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Clarify whether slotted U-Ring prototype will work - if not pursue original clamp design. [Team]
Get “final” iteration of girdle design to Druann’s hands. [Team]
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Girdle: Very pleased with the new prototype.
One time use girdle is totally fine for sanitation standards.
Have the first linkage of the clamp be extendable, up to two times its current length.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Fail fast frequently.
Iteration #3 of the girdle is designed, awaiting manufacture.
Be aware that you have two consumers, the patient and the clinician.
Clinician is main consumer, patient’s needs (i.e. comfort) will be secondary to the clinicians needs by and large.
