156B Week 3
Weekly Progress Report
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Initial prototype acquired. First review of prototype planned for Wednesday 4/18/2018 by the medical staff.
Initial clamp has been purchased, however it is much too heavy - a new clamp will be acquired or designed to satisfy our design constraints.
Designing of the plate base upon which the slotted U-Ring or clamp attaches to the girdle will wait until the girdle and clamp design are finalized.
Medical grade silicon applied to the clamp tips to increase the friction between the clamp and applicator will wait until the clamp design is finalized.
Prototype version #2 scheduled for completion the weekend before Week 4.
Updated strapping.
Leg straps.
Designed for clamp attachment.
Continue rapid prototyping.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Delegated upcoming project tasks.
Acquire plastic material to use as structural support for the girdle. [Megan]
Prototype a slotted U-Ring and clamp to hold the tandem and applicator. [Megan & Cameron]
Update website and compile appropriate information. [Keenan & Shichen]
Purchased and acquired first clamp. Testing to follow.
Designed new updated prototype.
Requisite report and website information posted.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Acquire plastic material to use as structural support for the girdle. [Megan]
Clarify whether slotted U-Ring prototype will work - if not pursue original clamp design. [Megan & Cameron]
Experiment with purchased clamp to determine if it will work. [Cameron]
Confirm material choice will satisfy sanitary requirements. [Keenan]
Update website and compile appropriate information. [Keenan & Shichen]
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Patients could undergo 4-5 procedures. It would be beneficial if the girdle were designed be used on one patient multiple times before being disposed.
Dr. Mayadev is making contact with a sterilization policy specialist. A meeting will hopefully be arranged to discuss materials and requirements for adequate sterilization of the girdle.
Received an outline of the standard operating procedure to show safety and the importance of immobilization in gyn procedures.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Stability is a concern. Look into an external fixture device that the clamp can slide along to reduce the moment arm.
Initial prototyping will take place in the next week for this, termed slotted U-Ring [Megan & Cameron]
Patient Comfort
Secondary priority, procedure is already uncomfortable. Once prototype works properly adjustments can be made to increase patient comfort such as lining with cotton.
Risks and Areas of Concern
C-Clamp / pelvic girdle interface [Shichen]
Stabilization of applicator within patient [Team]
Material constraints [Keenan]
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Awaiting information on sterilization policies.
