156A Week 10
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
All fundamental parts have been ordered through team member’s account and will be reimbursed.
Testing of Wi-fi communication is underway. Research for bluetooth alternatives is also being done.
IMU’s are also being tested and position data has been collected via Arduino IDE.
Pressure sensor requires additional electronics that needs to be sourced.
Materials for the glove and the general glove design are being researched to meet desired specifications
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Identified parts that need to be ordered and to be tested before the Risk reduction
Attempted to reserve a workspace in EBU 2, ended up in a wild goose chase.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Begin coding interface in java to accept multiple inputs-Kyle
Integrate IMU and pressure sensors to Photon board for displaying relevant data for risk reduction-Kyle
Research the hand to hand communication (likely bluetooth)-Kyle
Get filtered IMU measurements of hand angle -- Michael
Create rudimentary designs for glove depending on sensor choices - John
Research and put together a list of possible materials to use for glove - John
Research other alternatives for the finger pressure sensor to determine if the current sensor is a good choice - Euan
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Week 10 sponsor meeting will be on Thursday
Week 9 Sponsor meeting overview:
Sponsor was unable to attend due to delays at work, had brief phone call instead.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Worries about loss of fingertip touch sensitivity with a glove - 3/1/18, in person
Research being done on how gloves affect touch sensitivity for future designs
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Felt that we had made a lot of progress: Emilee Kang - 3/13/18, in person
“Woah, you guys already ordered stuff?”: Paul Ngo - 3/06/18, in person
Risks and Areas of Concern
Wi-fi communication
Access to UCSD Device Wifi because the regular school wifi is protected against IOT devices
Hardware for finger pressure sensor is relatively bulky and gets very expensive (especially if we create sensors for all 5 fingers)
Fitting the sensors onto the glove in a manner that doesn’t obstruct movement while also not reducing sensor accuracy
Resources or Information Required but not Available
None as of now
Schedule
Describe upcoming milestone
Update Gantt chart
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
$114.57 spent so far which leaves $885.45 for the initial budget
