Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Were able to successful run our test module using the old equipment
Ordering piezo, will have in 2-3 weeks max
-have to begin making module to fit new piezo
Should have reference mic by the end of next week
Prototype is complete, working on making improvements such as a new test bed and reducing displacement on top of metal block
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Were able to assemble testing apparatus and see visual response from MEMS
Confirmed that the MEMS respond to a change in chamber pressure
Calculated a range of compression spring displacements that result in sufficient loading of Ebay piezo stack
Got vespel piece from sponsor, using to make new test beds
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Make new stiffer/lighter plunger - Chris
Machine vespel - Chris
Record and analyze data of MEMs response to stimulus under various conditions - Jenessa
Modify prototype design to fit new piezo - Kyle
Find stiffer spring or other material to replace current springs - Russ
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Ordering piezo today or tomorrow (4/28)
If possible, be able to get same response in different positions using the same MEMS
Make two more bed configurations - one with reference mic in the center, one with ref mic and another mems next to it
Try testing with just one MEMS in bed (take 3 out) to see how much volume affects performance
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Need to remove or replace springs with something stiffer in order to get a good response at low frequencies
Need to add damping to the model to get rid of spike at 800Hz
15Hz cutoff on hp filter may be too close to 20Hz
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Use Semitron or some other non-conductive material for MEMS test bed because anodized aluminum could hold charge
Risks and Areas of Concern
Unsure whether the piezo we're ordering will be able to perform the task, but we must order our best choice asap because of 2 week lead time
