Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Learned how to use the testing setup from previous group - just got approval from ACMS to install drivers required to control function generator, now able to use testing setup
Spoke to Tom about machining process required and feasibility; can begin machining new test bed this week
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Wired up the testing setup, learned how to use Labview VI made by last group
Changed cutoff frequency of the MEMS signal filter to suit new requirements for this quarter
Piezo stack has been chosen, just need to tell sponsor at meeting Tues 4/7
Reference mic has been chosen, just need to tell sponsor at meeting Tue 4/7
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Make wiring diagram of filter/buffer for final report - Jenessa
Learn more about driving piezo by controlling charge instead of voltage - Jenessa
Finish design of baseplate and begin machining - Chris
Order power supplies for op-amps and MEMs - Chris
Find and order laser mounts; figure out design for piezo stack fixture - Russ
Write introductory portions of report - Kyle
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Amplifier has been ordered by sponsor and should arrive by week 4
Reviewed design requirements, reiterated what is required - sent sponsor formal email confirming our understanding
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Fill empty chamber space with more material to make the air volume smaller
Look into machining parts, 3D printing is not recommended for this application. The last group had much better results after making most parts out of aluminum.
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Some student comments said they didn't understand the concepts in our project. We are addressing this by adding a review of MEMs and piezo stacks to the beginning of our design proposal presentation
Risks and Areas of Concern
Proper mounting and alignment of piezo stack
Machining very small recesses for MEMs
How to test both sides of MEMs
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Don't yet understand how new amp works; have to wait a few weeks for it to arrive
Schedule
Amplifier arriving in 2-3 weeks
Pogo pins will arrive within a week from 4/6/15
Write select sections of report by the end of the week
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
Ordered pogo pins - $75 ($3.11 each, quantity 25)
Progress on Report and Webpage
Writing introductions and making diagrams this week
