Project Management
Project Objectives
High Priority Objectives
Create Robot which can demonstrate the dynamics behind "pumping."
Pumping done through remote
Improve pumping
Perpetual motion automatically
Pump to increase height and lift out of half-pipe
Make pumping automatic
Second Priority Objectives
Robot have components which can be swapped out or changed to demonstrate the scientific method for students
Robot can turn in mid-air
Robot can pump automatically
Spin Robot 180 in air
Once robot lifts out of half-pipe, spin 180, then land back in half-pipe
Perform two spins in a row
Other Constraints and Issues
Everything must be ready by Monday, March 19th
Demonstration for SPAWAR, BEA engineering, and Preuss school during first week of June
WOW Design Solution
Build a robot which will fit upon a normal skateboard. The robot will demonstrate how a human pump, and will be able to maintain its momentum in a half-pipe setting. The robot will have a part which moves up and down to demonstrate how a human pumps with their legs. The robot must visually show the physics. The robot will also be able to turn around in the air by spinning its mass. The robot will be ready by a March 19th Tony Hawk event, and will demonstrate the physics behind pumping to a middle school to high school audience.
Robot will be an improvement of first prototype. Robot will optimize pumping to enable lifting out of half-pipe. When robot is in air, it will perform a 180 spin and land back in half-pipe to continue circuit. Robot will have the capability to be automatic as well as manual. This ability will be used in demonstrations to allow students to perform the robot actions themselves as well as see the optimal movements. Robot will have changeable variables such as arm length and arm weight to test how they affect the robots pumping efficiency. Robot will be made to run for a 15 minute demonstration.
Risk Reduction Strategy
Create robot with one degree of freedom to simulate pumping
Do analysis for Optimal pumping
Do torque analysis for 180* spin
