In order to add and subtract you have to convert the fractions to having the same denominator (that's the number on the bottom). Check out the
Converting and Reducing Fractions page to review how. Once the two fractions have the same denominator then all you need to do is add or subtract the numerators ( the number on top). Remember NOT to add or subtract the denominators.
For Example: 1/2 + 2/6... 2 * 3 = 6 and so (1/2 * 3/3) + 2/6 = 1/2 + 2/6 so 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6
