My name is Susan Lawler. Welcome to the Dysart Unified School District, a district dedicated to preparing students for excellence and success throughout their journey in life. The district’s mission is to create a safe, diversified and engaging learning environment where every student attains academic excellence and is empowered to achieve life-long success.
I am originally from Portland, Oregon...the Valley of Rain. I moved to Arizona with my family 8 years ago and we love the sun and warmth. That may sound crazy to Arizona natives but we come from a state where it rains an average of 152 days a year! This is my 15th year teaching and 8th year in the Dysart District. Despite the blistering heat, my family and I have acclimated pretty well to the new climate. Even though we no longer live in Oregon, my family continues to cheer for our favorite teams...The University of Oregon Ducks and The Portland Trailblazers!
I enjoy coaching kids sports during my free time like softball, soccer, basketball, and volleyball. I have coached in all competitive levels and age levels. In fact this last school year, my ele-middle girls’ soccer team at Luke Elementary won the District Championship. It was a season of great memories and great players who worked hard all season long to finish at the top of the league! I was fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to play both Softball and Basketball in high school and college. I look forward to meeting Valley Vista student athletes and getting to know them better on the field and the court and at the same time sharing some of my experiences and memories of playing at a competitive level. I have 3 children, Katy Sue (9th grader), Jack (7th grader), and Emily Grace (1st grade). My husband and I have a wonderful time trying to keep up with them. Some of my interests outside of school include working out, hiking, pickleball, and reading all my favorite books. In fact, I travel a lot during the summer playing in competitive pickleball tournaments all around California, Arizona, and Oregon.
Physical Education has always been my favorite subject in school, as a student and as a teacher. My philosophy as a teacher is to provide our students with a quality, developmentally appropriate, fun, physical education experience filled with a variety of activities. Expectations are high and positive student behavior in class is essential to your success in PE.
