Units of Instruction

Semester 1

Unit 1: Pickleball

Pickleball is a paddleball sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a Wiffle Ball, over a net.

Unit 2: Volleyball

Volleyball is a popular team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules.

Unit 3: Softball

Softball is a game similar to baseball played with a larger ball (11 to 12 in. circumference) on a field that has base lengths of 60 feet, a pitcher's mound that ranges from 35–43 feet away from home plate, and a homerun fence that is 220 feet away from home plate. The game moves at a faster pace than traditional baseball.

Unit 4: Track

This sport includes athletic contests established on the skills of running, jumping, and throwing.

Unit 5: Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball through the defender's hoop while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop.

Unit 6: Soccer

A game played by two teams of eleven players with a round ball that may not be touched with the hands or arms during play except by the goalkeepers. The object of the game is to score goals by kicking or heading the ball into the opponents' goal.

Semester 2

Unit 1: Ultimate Frisbee

Ultimate frisbee, is a non-contact team sport played with a flying disc. Points are scored by passing the disc to a teammate in the opposing end zone. Other basic rules are that players must not take steps while holding the disc, and interceptions, incomplete passes, and passes out of bounds are turnovers.

Unit 2: Tennis

Tennis is a racket sport that can be played individually against a single opponent or between two teams of two players each. Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court.

Unit 3: Lacrosse

Lacrosse is a team sport played with a lacrosse stick and a lacrosse ball. Players use the head of the lacrosse stick to carry, pass, catch, and shoot the ball into the goal.

Unit 4: Spikeball is a combination of volleyball and foursquare and can be very competitive and challenging. T sport of roundnet is played 2 vs 2, with a taut hula hoop sized Spikeball net placed between the teams.

Unit 5: Badminton

Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" and "doubles".

Unit 6: Flag Football

Flag football is a version of American football where the basic rules of the game are similar to those of the mainstream game, but instead of tackling players to the ground, the defensive team must pull flags.

Unit 7: Hockey

Floor hockey is a family of indoor hockey games. This sport can be played with 6-8 players on each team and a goalie. The objective is the same as Ice Hockey...score the puck in the other team's goal.
