Teacher/Naturalist

 Four talented Teacher/Naturalists have the chance to live and work at the Seashore House each school year.

Dates: School Year,  September 23 , 2024- June 16, 2025 

Salary:  Salary is based on number of program days in the entire school year and is paid bi-weekly. 

Private room provided for the term of the program.  Board is provided when students are in residence and fully stocked kitchen is open for staff use at all times.

Staff are part of the Barnstable County Retirement program.  Health, Life, and Dental Insurance are available.                      

Responsibilities: Teacher/Naturalists lead 3 hikes/lessons per day for their teaching group.  Teachers develop and present experiential lessons based on the MA Education Frameworks.   Lessons are centered on the local environments (Beach & Dune, Dune Forest, Kettlehole Pond, Saltmarsh, Freshwater Swamps) and cultural history.  Lessons also include: Nightwalk, Group Dynamics, and Pizza Making.  

 Teachers are also responsible on a rotating basis for helping with meal preparation and serving, bedtime duties, group supervision during short bus trips to various natural and historical areas of the outer Cape, and the overall care and maintenance of the facility.  

Work week during residential programs is Monday 8 am through Friday 2 pm.  Each Teacher/Naturalist has one day (9:15-4:00) and one evening (after 7 pm) off during the work week.  Weeks that are day programs only have daily hours Monday- Friday 8 am to 4 pm.  Weekends and published school vacation weeks/days are free.

Qualifications: B.S. or equivalent experience  required.   Current CPR & First Aid certification need to be attained by start of program.  Love of being outdoors in all kinds of weather on the great outer beach of the Cape Cod National Seashore and a background/experience in teaching, natural history interpretation, marine science, or general ecology strongly recommended.  Experience with youth, residential education, and facilitating team building preferred.  Candidates with certification in Wilderness first-aid or currently holding a CDL are strongly encouraged to apply.

We are NOT currently looking for someone to come help create the magic of mealtime at the Seashore house.  However, if you read this and think it is your dream job please reach out...circumstances can change and we love to meet new people!

It is a 20 hour per week position with some flexibility in days and hours

Responsibilities:

Preparation and kitchen clean up of 6 set meals each week (with copious assistance)

Placing weekly order for groceries and milk

Maintaining a safe and clean kitchen

Opening/Closing of kitchen at start and end of school year

Benefits:

$20.67 hourly  (with annual increase and longevity) maximum of 600 hours

Weekly Schedule for meals:

Monday  9:30 am - 1:30 pm; 4 pm-7 pm

Tuesday 4 pm - 7 pm

Wednesday 10:00 am - 2 pm; 5 pm- 7 pm
