Go to the Technology Office immediately, for each of the following events. These issues should be addressed immediately since they pose a safety risk to you and those around you:
Liquid spill
Cracked trackpad
Puncture or crack to metal casing on computer
Cracked display/screen
For all other problems (loose display hinge, missing keys, strange noises), email helpdesk@dwight.edu and then come to the Technology Department during an appropriate time (free period, study hall, lunch, after school, etc.). There is no reason to leave class unless it is one of the problems above. It is important to get these issues addressed quickly as not fixing them can lead to larger and more expensive repairs.
Updating software is important in order to keep your device bug-free and stable.
There are 2 major categories for software updates:
App Store Updates
Operating System (OS X or MacOS)
App Store application
Other apps
Including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint); Adobe (Acrobat, Creative Suite); and other programs
Users should regularly Update (see image below) their operating system using the App Store.
However, users are NOT allowed to Upgrade to a new operating system (ex: from 10.10 to 10.11) until directed to do so by the Technology Department.
Students should save all important files in Google Drive. Google Drive will upload your files to the Google Cloud and provide 30 days of backup in case of accidental deletion. Files stored outside of the default Google Drive folder will not be synchronized with the cloud and may not be recovered in the event of a problem.
Should you require a backup solution for media-rich content (ex. Final Cut projects), it will be your responsibility to purchase an external hard drive to utilize Apple’s built-in Time Machine application for larger backups.
All printing should be sent to the Dwight Global Print queue. To print your documents, you will need type in your Dwight username (ex. 2030btest) and your computer password at the nearest publicly available printer.
There are public printers available in the Upper and Middle School Library and in hallways in the Main Campus and North Campus Buildings.
Note: Always make your best effort to reduce unnecessary printing.
It is the sole responsibility of the student to ensure the security of his or her device.
Never leave a laptop unattended or in an unlocked locker. Always keep your passwords secure and do not share them with anybody other than your parents or a member of the Technology Department if asked when troubleshooting a problem.
If you suspect any account of yours either on your device, application or service has been compromised, change your password immediately. if you do not know how to change your password for the particular service, please visit the Technology Department.
