1:1 Program Policies

Dwight believes that an innovative education makes purposeful use of technology where it will enhance teaching and learning. To this end, the school will provide students in grades 1-2 with an Apple iPad, grades 3-4 are issued Chromebooks and in grades 5-12 an Apple MacBook Air computer. All necessary software and apps that have been pre-selected by teachers will be loaded onto the iPad or computer at the time of delivery. Students will be guided through the installation of necessary apps and software packages by their teacher or a member of the Technology Department.

Families of students younger than age 13 will be guided through the process of creating a school-sponsored AppleID to install and manage software; students over the age of 13 are expected to maintain their own Apple ID for software installation and management purposes.

1:1 Ownership

While 1:1 devices will be distributed to students in grades 3-12, the devices are owned by Dwight School. This allows the school to retain, repair and maintain devices as necessary and ensure that each student has the resources needed throughout the school day.

The school also retains ownership of the software installed on the iPad or computer, and, in keeping with school policies on plagiarism and copyright, students should not attempt to copy this software to another device. Students can install additional software as needed upon passing the “Driver’s Test”.

Every iPad and MacBook Air will be delivered with a protective case, name tag, and asset tag sticker affixed to the bottom of the device, underneath its protective case. Name and asset tags should be visible through the clear case, and is not to be removed under any circumstances. Under no circumstances shall a device be directly altered with stickers, ink, or engravings.

Software

At the time of distribution, each iPad and MacBook Air computer will have all the necessary software that Dwight faculty have decided are essential to daily teaching and learning. In addition to these apps and software package, additional software may be required throughout the school year. In these cases, the school will distribute the software through the students’ AppleID or asset tag as necessary. (See above.)

While you may not have admin privileges, rest assured that you will still have access to a wide range of applications and software that are essential for your studies and learning experience. These applications can be conveniently found and installed through the "Self Service" in your Applications folder.

Self Service is a user-friendly platform where you can browse and install approved applications that have been carefully selected to support your educational needs. If you require any specific software that is not available in Self Service , please feel free to reach out to our IT department (helpdesk@dwight.edu).

Damage and Loss
