Common Problems
Quick Tips
Note: Many problems can be quickly solved by quitting all applications and restarting the computer.
Tip: Restart your computer at least once a week to protect against performance problems.
The list below provides some steps to follow for a variety of common problems.
If you have restarted your computer and cannot identify the solution to your problem, email the Technology Department at helpdesk@dwight.edu.
Slow Performance or unexpected behavior
Macbook:
Quit all applications and restart the computer.
If the problem still exists, email helpdesk@dwight.edu. You may ask for permission to visit the Technology Department (Room 213) when you have free time, such as a study hall, lunch or free period, in your schedule.
Ipad:
Double tap the home button and swipe up each application to quit them. Tap the home button again to return to normal. Next, press and hold down the power button and power off the device. Next, power it on again.
If the device still is unresponsive, perform a hard restart of the device by holding down the power and home button at the same time for 10 seconds until the iPad screen goes black. Release both buttons when Apple logo reappears.
Slow or unstable internet access
Macbook:
Turn Wifi off and on again by selecting the series of arcs in the upper right corner of the laptop screen and clicking to turn it off and on again.
iPad:
iPad users can swipe up from the bottom of the iPad to disable/re-enable the WiFi radio from the quick access buttons. In both cases make sure WiFi remains off for 5 seconds before turning it back on again and re-connecting to the nearest access point. Alternatively, the Airplane Mode button may be turned on/off to accomplish the same goal.
Printing
To print in black-and-white:
Select Dwight Global Print from the print menu
Type in your computer username and password at the nearest publicly available printer
There are public printers available in the Upper and Middle School Library, Student Lounge and the North Campus Buildings.
To print in color:
Open Self Service
Install the Dwight Color Global Print driver
Select Dwight Color Global Print from the print menu
Type in your computer username and password at the nearest publicly available printer
You will need to repeat these steps whenever you need to print in color because the Dwight Color Global Print driver will automatically reset shortly after you have finished printing.
Printing difficulties
Check the local print queue by going to System Settings, and Printer and Scanners. Double-click the icon for your print queue, delete the job, and make sure the queue is resumed by pressing the resume button, then try printing your job again.
Check to make sure the printer has paper plugged in and is reporting it’s online without any error messages on the device itself on the print release station.

Low battery
If you suspect you will not make it through the period on battery power, you should attempt to locate yourself near a power outlet so that you can use your own charger without disturbing yourself, your classmates, or your teacher.
If your laptop's power is unexpectedly low during class, politely inform your teacher of the problem and ask to relocate to a seat near a power outlet so that you can use your charger to begin charging the device.
If you do not have a charger with you, you must ask a classmate to borrow theirs for the class period.
The Technology Department will not lend out chargers nor should you ever leave in the middle of a class to visit the Technology Department for such a request.
