Addressing the risks of on line selling

People trading animals, plants and other items online pose a significant biosecurity risk. Quite often peri urban producers opt for this method of trading or sell to friends and family or at the local farmers market.

This is an area where education is vital.

• NSW DPI and Greater Sydney Local Land Services have managed to get PIC information on to Gumtree so buyers and sellers understand their obligations.
• Livestock Biosecurity Network (LBN) have been working with Auctions Plus to educate the industry- see http://www.lbn.org.au/2016/04/04/boosting-biosecurity-online-with-auctionsplus/
• LBN have also been monitoring facebook sites and making sure biosecurity messages are included- see attached
