Visual Arts
Visual Arts is the exceptional capability or potential in the creation of art primarily for visual perception (e.g. drawing, graphics, painting, sculpture, decorative arts, etc.)
Students with visual arts potential are keenly aware of visual images and perceives
and depicts visual images from the environment and within art. They can discriminate subtle details and complexities in artwork, enjoys experimenting with artistic ideas, produces unique and unusual artwork that shows originality personal expression/artistic voice and imagination. Artists enjoys experimenting with artistic ideas and displays fluency and flexibility of imaginative ideas. Their artwork captures the attention of observers
Affirmations and Cautions
Individual students may not manifest all of the characteristics of giftedness within their area of talent.
If a curriculum is too regimented and narrow, there may not be opportunities for students to demonstrate their true potential or grow within their talent area in a typical way.
Beware of excluding students based on behavior. Characteristics of giftedness within any area may manifest in ways that are not considered positive by others.
A student’s abilities and/or potential may manifest in a single area of emphasis or multiple areas. No area of emphasis within the realm of visual arts should be excluded due to its purpose, intent, and/or social/cultural acceptance/implication.
