Psychomotor

Psychomotor aptitude is the exceptional capability or potential in athletics at the state and/or national level.

Students who demonstrate potential in psychomotor abilities show demonstrated by physical skills such as movement, coordination, manipulation, dexterity, grace, strength, speed—actions which demonstrate the fine or gross motor skills.


Affirmations and Cautions

  • Individual students may not manifest all of the characteristics of motivation within their strength area(s) If a skill based curriculum is too regimented and narrow, there may not be opportunities for students to expand beyond technical mastery.

  • Psychomotor ability can be manifested in a single area or multiple areas.

  • Beware of excluding students based on behavior. Characteristics of gifted students in any area may manifest in ways that are not considered positive by others.
