In this module you will investigate the different pieces of equipment in the STEM lab and how they can be used in different experiments.
Learning Targets:
I can identify the appropriate tools and procedures that are necessary for measuring and collecting data.
Action 1: Research equipment and topic for mini review of literature (min 2 pages).
Action 2: Find and create procedure for both the experiment and equipment.
Action 3: Run experiment and collect data.
Action 4: Present findings to class, and discuss significance of data.
The intention of this module is to have you become an expert on a piece of STEM
lab equipment. You will be first researching your piece of equipment and
developing a experiment to perform using your assigned item. You need to come
up with a simplified procedure to use the equipment as well as a procedure for
your experiment. Once the procedure is complete you will carry out the
experiment and collect the data. The class will discuss the significance of the data
during your presentation.
Equipment List:
- Electron Microscope
- Spectrophotometer (including serial dilution)
- Bomb Calorimeter
- Bacterial Protocol (autoclave included)
- Algae Protocol
- Lab Quests
- IR Camera
- Electrophoresis/Western Blotting
