You are the owner of a dive shop that specializes in teaching novices how to SCUBA dive. One of your responsibilities is to teach a class regarding SCUBA dangers and how they relate to chemistry. You will need to research Dalton's Law, Henry's Law, Boyle's Law and Charles Law, and how they relate to barotrauma, “the bends”, nitrogen narcosis, oxygen toxicity and gas embolisms.
Create a Prezi/PowToon/Popplet/Visme/Biteable/Zoho Show/other creative presentation that will be shown to your students on the first day of class. Make sure to include:
A dive shop logo
A background to SCUBA diving (definitions, necessary equipment, important statistics (include at least 3), how does SCUBA work, gases present in SCUBA tanks, etc.)
Define the important gas laws that are related to SCUBA diving, give the mathematical formula of the law, and include a graph that represents the relationship between the two variables in the law.
Boyle's Law
Charles' Law
Dalton's Law
Henry's Law
Define the following risks associated with SCUBA Diving, be sure to include when and how they occur, along with symptoms and treatment. Also make sure to tell which law(s) apply to each.
Ear Barotrauma
Decompression sickness/the “bends”
Nitrogen Narcosis
Oxygen Toxicity
Gas Embolisms/Pulmonary Barotrauma
