“At the heart of science is an essential balance between two seemingly contradictory attitudes — an openness to new ideas, no matter how bizarre or counter intuitive, and the most ruthlessly skeptical scrutiny of all ideas, old and new. This is how deep truths are winnowed from deep nonsense. The collective enterprise of creative thinking and skeptical thinking, working together, keeps the field on track. Those two seemingly contradictory attitudes are, though, in some tension.” Carl Sagan
Find and summarize four (4) articles relating to a topic that you hope to pursue this year. After reading each article you should summarize what the purpose/procedures/results of the study are as well as how you can modify this research to be your focus.
Find one (1) short video that piques your science interest! Discuss what is interesting about this video and what you could do as a research project in this class.
You will be presenting your ideas to the class as a way to introduce yourself as a researcher and what you intend to study this year in class. Returning students you will be presenting not only this year's research intention but also what you have done in the past.
Fill out a GoogleDoc that includes links to your articles and your summaries as well as to your video.
Presentations will start Monday 8/19
