District 181 has reccommendations for 2023 summer reading.
Illinois Readers’ Choice Awards are annual programs with books nominated by students, teachers, and librarians all over Illinois. Students read the nominated books and then vote for their favorite around the end of February. The Lane Library has multiple copies of each title available and many are also available on Axis 360 in both eBook and audio book formats. Reading from these lists will expose students to a wide range of genres that they might not otherwise self-select.
Nomination lists:
The Monarch Award: Illinois’ K-3 Readers’ Choice Award
The Bluestem Award: Illinois’ Grades 3-5 Readers’ Choice Award
Rebecca Caudill Award: Illinois' Grades 4-8 Readers’ Choice Award
The D181 Battle of the Books list is selected by the district's Teacher Librarians and are selected for appropriateness for 4th and 5th grade students and to appeal to a wide variety of reading tastes. You do not need to be a member of the Battle of the Books club in order to enjoy the books.
