The Lane Library empowers students to find materials to read that they will enjoy and/or find useful in their studies. We are not overly concerned with overdue materials, but instead concentrate on connecting students with reading materials for enjoyment and self discovery. However, we do serve the whole school and do have some established procedures to make the library run smoothly for everyone.
Kindergarten students may have one book checked out at a time.
All other students may have three books checked out; exceptions are made for books that need to be checked out to use for a school project/assignment.
All students are expected to return materials in a timely manner to ensure materials are available for all students. No student is penalized for overdue materials. When a book is lost or damaged, it is expected that the student will pay to replace it.
Usually a weekly notice of overdue materials will be emailed to the parent address on file and/or to older students. This helpful reminder is meant to remind students and families that materials are checked out and should be returned in a timely manner. It is not meant as a request for payment of lost materials unless the family is sure the items are lost. If the family thinks the items have already been returned, it is helpful to email the library staff to ask that we look for the materials. Mistakes do happen and we would rather catch any mistakes early. Families are free to wait until the end of the school year to pay for missing materials, however please do not wait until the very last week of school. Any lost or damaged books not paid for by the deadline (usually a day or two before the last day of school) will be charged to the family's Skyward account.
