Artists in Residence (AIR)

Within the VHHS department, we aim to host an Artist in Residence every 2-3 years. They vary in experience, education, skills, style, media, and involvement in the arts.

Spring 2015

Students in Drawing & Painting and AP Portfolio classes were inspired in part by Chicago-based artist Ryan Blume when creating their own paintings and drawings. Art classes welcomed University of Iowa educated Blume as part of the VHHS Artist in Residence program, funded by C.A.S.T.

While finishing their independent projects, students in AP Portfolio, Drawing & Painting, and Art Club contributed to a collaborative mandala painting. Blume’s focal point design was embellished with acrylic and oil paint pens using a color scheme decided upon by students that emphasizes the unity of the cooperative group despite each student’s individual differences. The Art Department thanks every student who had a hand in painting this artwork, on display for posterity in the VHHS Fine Arts hallway.
