2D Design Portfolio

2D Design Portfolio

Students will expand their two-dimensional design skills and advance their visual communication skills by exploring a variety of design processes and techniques, and compositional and aesthetic concepts. The media utilized and design problems presented will change from semester-to-semester, but in all artworks, the Elements and Principles of Design will be the emphasis. Design Elements investigated in a variety of media include line, shape, texture, color, space, and value. Design Principles communicated include contrast, balance, unity/harmony, focal point/emphasis, pattern, repetition, and movement. For example, black & white darkroom photography and digital photography of landscapes and cityscapes, nature close-ups, individual and group portraits, still life, low lighting scenes (light painting), and homage will explore the above Design Elements and Principles. Digital Illustrator vector graphics will explore shape and unity as students develop self-portraits using typography. Photoshop-generated portrait collages or propaganda-study posters featuring photographs and scanned images and found objects will satisfy texture.

Students will produce a minimum of 15 works and process images/sketches that satisfy the requirements of the Sustained Investigation section and of these choose 5 Selected Works to physically send in for evaluation. Click on "Portfolio Sections" below to see more details.
