Dr. Philip Baldwin

Philip Baldwin is director of string studies, conductor of the Whitworth Orchestra, and associate professor of violin. Baldwin is a dedicated artist-teacher whose students have won competitions and have received scholarships to prestigious graduate schools and summer programs. He has also trained many successful teachers who are now influencing the next generation of string playing. He is the concertmaster and assistant conductor of the Coeur d’Alene Symphony and a former tenured member of the Spokane Symphony. He has been the invited conductor of the WMEA Junior All-State Orchestra, and the past-president of the Washington Chapter of the American String Teachers Association. He is also a frequent guest conductor, lecturer and recitalist.

Master-class clinician, University of Puget Sound Community Music School ('08, '09); adjudicator and clinician for University of Illinois String and Orchestra Clinic (2009); adjudicator for WSMTA regional auditions (2009); adjudicator and clinician for CBMEA Large Group Orchestra Festival (2009); conductor of the Spokane Junior Symphonic Orchestra and conductor of the WMEA Junior All-State Orchestra.
