Our mission is to deepen students' understanding and appreciation of music by exploring its beauty across diverse genres and cultures. Through disciplined practice, we strive to instill technical skill, proper posture, and a sense of responsibility—fostering lifelong learning and personal growth. Engaging in music provides students with pride, purpose, and a meaningful connection to the fine arts community. We believe every child deserves a creative outlet and are dedicated to offering a supportive space where they can fully express themselves through the transformative art of music.

Meet the Director

Mr. Flemmer's Bio

Mr. Flemmer is a dedicated educator, accomplished musician, and decorated military leader with over two decades of diverse professional experience. A committed member of the Central Valley School District, he has spent 21 years inspiring students in both music and athletics, while drawing on 16 years of distinguished service in the U.S. Army Reserve, including two combat tours in Afghanistan.

Education and Musical Career

Mr. Flemmer began his musical journey at age six, studying violin under renowned mentors such as Dr. Gerald Doty and Dr. Phil Baldwin. His dedication to music education is reflected in his academic accomplishments:

Currently, Mr. Flemmer serves as the Director of Orchestras at Central Valley High School, where he leads the Chamber, Symphonic, and Concert Orchestras. Previously, he developed thriving orchestra programs at Greenacres Middle School and several elementary schools, including Progress, Liberty Lake, and Greenacres Elementary. His work extends to mentoring young musicians through string programs at the Spokane Valley Learning Academy and Summit School.

In addition to his teaching roles, Mr. Flemmer has served as the Central Valley School District Music Coordinator, supporting music educators across 35 schools. As the Eastern Washington representative for the American String Teachers Association, he fosters collaboration and professional growth among music educators throughout the region.

Coaching and Athletics

A dedicated coach for 19 years, Mr. Flemmer has profoundly influenced student-athletes' lives. Currently serving as the Freshman Football Coach at Central Valley High School, he emphasizes teamwork, discipline, and personal growth. Previously, he spent 15 years as the Head Middleweight Football Coach at Greenacres Middle School and held coaching positions at University High School for football and baseball.

Military Leadership

A Major in the U.S. Army Reserve, Mr. Flemmer has demonstrated exemplary leadership throughout his military career. He has commanded engineer units specializing in route clearance and mobility operations, including deployments to Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. He has also served in roles such as Platoon Leader, Battle Captain, and Assistant S3 Plans Officer.

Currently, Mr. Flemmer mentors future military leaders as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Gonzaga and Whitworth Universities. He is enrolled in the Intermediate Level Education (ILE) program, preparing for senior leadership roles.

His military education includes the Engineer Captains Career Course, Engineer Basic Officer Leaders Course, and specialized training in Counter Explosives Hazards Planning. His military awards include:

Personal and Community Impact

Beyond the classroom, athletic field, and military service, Mr. Flemmer actively contributes to his community. He has organized Veterans Day assemblies, directed Naturalization Ceremonies, and led the Inland Empire String Camp. Since the early 2000s, he has been a member of the Coeur d'Alene Symphony, performing and enriching the regional arts community.

In his personal life, Mr. Flemmer enjoys spending time with his dog, exploring cars and bikes, and passionately supporting the Seahawks and Gonzaga Basketball. His commitment to excellence, service, and fostering growth in his students and community continues to leave an indelible impact.
