Every student in our class will have a turn to be our Star Student of the Week! Below you will find the schedule of Star Students throughout the year, and you will also find more details about what to do when your child is the Star Student.
What students need to bring when they are Star Student:
A completed Star Student poster (poster provided by us)
An estimation jar
Items to share that give more information about themselves
All items should be brought to school the Monday of their Star Student week
Items that were shared will be taken home on Monday (the same day they are shared)
Estimation jars will be taken home on Friday
Posters will be sent home in panda folders the following Thursday
Star Student Poster:
Will be given to students at least one week before they will be Star Student
Should be completed by the student with minimal parent help
Spots for pictures can be drawings and/or print-outs
All illustrations should be colored
Posters should reflect time and effort by the students
Posters will be displayed on the Star Student board throughout the week
Estimation Jar:
Should be a transparent (clear), plastic jar or container (no glass please!) and have a lid
Should be filled with one type of object (examples: beads, Cheerios, marbles, erasers, dry beans or pasta, etc.)
Students should know the number of objects inside the jar but they should not tell any of their classmates this number! (If they think they might forget the number, you could have them write the number on a piece of paper, fold up the paper so you can't see the number, and tape it to the inside of the lid)
Students' classmates will be trying to estimate the number of objects inside the jar
The actual number will be revealed on the last day of the week
Items That Give More Information About Themselves:
Students can bring a few items into the class that tell a little bit more about them. Examples could include:
Something they're proud of: All students have something they should be proud of! This is a time to show that off to their classmates!!
A collection they have: sticker collections, stamp collections, coin collections, rock collections, or any other sort of collection they have
Favorites: a favorite stuffed animal, a favorite book, a favorite movie, a favorite game, a favorite toy, etc.
Something related to a family tradition: an artifact/decoration that goes along with a favorite family tradition/cultural event
Basically anything students might want to bring except living animals
Students should not be playing with anything they bring into school for their Star Student sharing
Family/pet introductions: if your child wants to bring their family and/or pet(s) to share with the class, please check with us first to schedule a time
