Marriage is an institution that is as old as time itself. In actual fact it is the first institution enacted by God in the beginning. It is therefore safe to say that marriage actually began with God. |Outside of |God there is nothing called marriage. To therefore do marriage right requires that we engage the principles of marriage as instituted by God, who is the author of marriage. People today have totally neglected the God factor in marriage, this is why there is an increase in divorce rate all around the world. People are no longer leaving to cleave, rather they prefer to use one another to meet selfish ends.
There are certain truths I have come to discover about marriage which I think young people should take good note of. When it comes to the issue of marriage, the best place to start is to check out the source. The beauty about the source is that, the sustaining power is always hidden in it. The world wide statistics as it relates to the rate of divorce is staggering , and most unfortunately it does not exclude the church.
Too many youths today are made to believe that all that is needed to find a suitable partner and make a good home is the prophetic. I believe in the prophetic, but I want to say here that it is not enough to make marriage work. Prophesies, Prayers and Miracles can bring you a man but will not always bring you a husband. God himself, not even a prophesy gave man a wife but man fell by the hand of the same woman. Little wonder Solomon in his great wisdom said that "whosoever finds a wife, finds a good thing".
This saying is deep, it points out the need for searching or lets say research. There are three things we must take note of when searching for a wife or husband.
1. You must Ask
Ask and you will receive. Before going about looking for the right partner, it is wisdom to ask. The question now is, ask who, ask what, ask when, and ask where.
Ask Who?
Ask God, ask yourself and ask whosoever you find.
Ask God for direction and wisdom. You will only receive from God what you ask of Him in prayers. So before setting out to look for a partner ask God in prayers. Be prayerful and work on yourself. You need to work on yourself because you will attract to yourself people just like you. If you are dubious, there is every chance that is who you will marry. There is a picture in your mind, and that is what will soon manifest. Adam fell because he never prayed to God for a wife, rather it is was God who discovered he needed a mate. Genesis 1:18. You need to give God your blue print so that He can peruse it, and give you an approval or disapproval.
Ask yourself questions
Here are some question I think you need to ask yourself.
a. Do I really know my partner?
b. What positive or negative attributes do I perceive in him or her?
c. What are his/her dislikes?
d. Who speaks into his/her life?
e. What does he/she hold in high esteem?
f. What is his/her vision?
g. What are his/her values?
h. Are you spiritually compatible?
These and many other thought provoking questions need to be answered before making a decision for marriage. To overlook them could be costly. And I must say that prayers and prophetic declaration are no substitute for understanding who you are dealing with. In all your getting, get understanding. When it comes to the issue of marriage, asking questions should not be overlooked.
Here are some reasons why you need to ask questions.
1. Man is a three in one being.
He is a spirit, he has a soul and lives in a body.
When you have God, you can easily access his spirit. This is because God is a Spirit. The spirit communicates with the spirit. With prayers and God's word richly dwelling in you, you can access his spirit.
His body is the physical him/her that you can see. Taking a decision on he/she looks is one of the easiest thing anyone can do. You either like him tall, slim, fair complexioned, with good teeth, blue eyes and straight hairs. That is physical and it is easy.
The third part of man is the problem. The marriage between the spirit and the body is what gave birth to the soul. The soul as it were has a life of its own. It can either take after the spirit or after the flesh. It is the hidden man, the unknown self or the blind self. It is the "heart" of the spirit and body. God cannot force Himself on the soul, the same way Satan cannot also force himself on the soul
