I have been teaching for 24 years and I have been at East Chapel Hill since 1999. My wife Jennifer and I have been married for 19 years and we live in Hillsborough. My wife teaches English at Alamance Community College. We have 3 wonderful kids. Our oldest son is Noah is a graduate of the University of California at Davis where he played soccer (he was the captain and finished his career in the top 5 in points and goals in school history as well as in a season) with a degree Religious Studies. He just got married last year so we have a daughter-in-law Mandy, who also played soccer at UC Davis, and has been accepted into PA school for nest year. Our youngest son Jacob is in 9th grade this year at Cedar Ridge High School. Our youngest child is our daughter Jenna is a special needs student with autism who is in 6th grade this year at Phillips Middle School. Plus we have always had dogs in our home and we have a 100 pound rescue named Rex who is a lab/golden retriever mix who has been with us for the last four years. I am from the coast of North Carolina (Atlantic Beach/Emerald Isle) and attended the University of North Carolina for my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I grew up playing both soccer and tennis and coached both sports at the high school level before focusing on my own kids' sports teams. I am a die hard Boston Red Sox fan, have a lifelong baseball card collection, and still love to read comics. I have held various jobs in my lifetime from working on a charter boat, working as a lifeguard, being a ferris wheel operator, working in restaurants as a server and cook, working in retail, and teaching at Duke TIP just to name a few. One of my favorite hobbies is woodworking- I worked construction for many years to help pay for college and have run a business with a colleague for many years in the summer. I have been lucky to have been a teacher at East for so many years. I have been recognized for my teaching both locally (I was the district teacher of the year in 2006-2007 and was recognized as the Elmo's Diner Teaching Chair for Secondary Math/Science 2 years ago) and nationally (I was the 2005 Siemens winner for teaching AP Statistics for NC, won the Edith May Sliffe Award for Math Teaching from the MAA twice, and Presidential Scholar's Teaching Recognition Award). I work hard to help every student of mine find success and want everyone to enjoy mathematics as much as I do. I am looking forward to a great year.
