Senior Aerospace Science Instructor -

Aerospace Science Instructor - Master Sergeant (retired) David Harruff

Master Sergeant (MSgt) David Harruff was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, and grew up as an "Air Force brat", moving around between New York, Turkey, Montana, England, and Michigan before returning to Pennsylvania at the end of his father's career. After graduating from high school in 1998, he enlisted as a Security Forces Specialist and was assigned to Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana. After three years, he arrived at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey on September 7, 2001. Two years later, he became a Combat Arms Instructor and moved to Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia where he trained 500 Airmen in marksmanship and conducted weapons maintenance. In 2007, MSgt Harruff moved to Büchel Air Base, Germany where he continued as a Combat Arms Instructor before becoming a Security Flight Sergeant (shift leader). MSgt Harruff also led security troops as a Flight Sergeant at his next assignment at Thule Air Base, Greenland. After a year in the cold, he transitioned to Royal Air Force Station Mildenhall, England where he oversaw the Security Forces Training Section. In 2016, MSgt Harruff moved on to Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota. In 2018, MSgt Harruff arrived at Volkel Air Base, the Netherlands to be the Operations Superintendent for the Security Forces team. He also conducted inspections on performance and readiness at bases across Europe. His final assignment was at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska where he retired in June 2022 after 24 years of service.

Whether it was teaching people to shoot on the firing range, training Airmen in classrooms and on the job as security professionals, mentoring Airmen and lower-level supervisors through operational and personal difficulties, or leading troops at all his assignments as well as deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, MSgt Harruff has always had a passion for teaching and encouraging development in others. This passion and some mentorship from a retired supervisor who is also in the program led him to pursue teaching in Air Force Junior ROTC at the end of his Air Force Career.

Drill Coach

MSgt (retired) Von Cook continues in the capacity of IA-951's Drill Coach.  He has the teams looking sharp and we look forward to another great year on the drill floor. Remember, he's been teaching drill longer than most cadets have been alive.

Overheard at Waterloo, "Lord give me the patience to endure my blessings."
