This course applies the study of color and composition to the creation of paintings with water-based media. Students create works using acrylic, watercolor, oil and/or mixed media. Each semester will present students with different projects, as well as historical and cultural content. Students will also prepare painting surfaces of paper, board, panel and canvas. Introductory paintings will focus on the Art Elements and Color Theory, as well as the application of the Principles of Art & Design. Students can expect to use a variety of painting tools and materials as they experience the challenges of translating images into colors and application techniques. Student Artists will create, design and develop a Portfolio Website showing their project work skills and improvements. In order to experience all of the painting processes offered, students should take this course for two semesters or a full year. Advanced and independent studio courses are also available.
