Clay Studio is designed to teach the fundamentals of both hand-building and wheel-thrown ceramics. The Elements and Principles of Art and Design will be used and covered with a focus on three dimensional forms created within clay. Students will create and develop individual project plans (Portfolio Website) to show their skills and improvements in clay work. A variety of project ideas and clay production options are presented each semester. Projects may include various interests such as tableware, sculpture, and coil/tile making. Demonstrations and studio activities include hand building, wheel working and mold making. Students begin each semester with a series of hand building and wheel throwing techniques in order to understand the restrictions and capabilities of clay and glaze. Each semester selected projects will present students with a variety of different construction, decoration, firing materials and techniques. These options allow students to join either semester of Clay Studio or enroll in Level 1 Clay for a full year.
