The AP Studio Art portfolio courses are designed for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art and design. AP Studio Art is not based on a written examination; instead, students will create and submit portfolios for evaluation at the end of the school year. Three to four Museum and/or Fine Art Gallery field trips will be taken during the fall semester to enhance the historical and cultural impact that creating art has on the human race.
The AP Program offers three portfolio course options: Drawing, 2-D Design, and 3-D Design. Each portfolio course shares a basic, two-section structure; along with a written artist’s statement- this requires the student to show a fundamental competence and range of understanding in visual concerns at college level standards.
Qualifying portfolio scores will allow students to earn college credit and/or advanced placement after high school.
