Foundations for Arts in Transformation

Introduction to Arts for Transformation is the foundational course for engaging the functional and concrete nature of the arts for individual and social transformation. The course introduces basic definitions, concepts, models and practices related to the creative arts for work with populations living in contexts of poverty and crisis. These set the stage for the fields of arts-based community development, cultural community development, development communication, arts-integrated teaching and therapeutic arts. Arts for Transformation is explored through videos, lectures, and readings. Assignments include reflection papers, quizzes, web searches, and a final project plan or creative interpretation on the theme of transformation.
