MacBooks for Teachers

The first completed update included (new!) MacBooks for the classroom teachers. In each room where there is an ActivBoard, the teacher also has a MacBook Pro. Other Mac OS computers were donated as part of the Legacy grant to fill in for teachers who do not have an ActivBoard, so all classroom teachers are now on the same platform. So far the response has been great both from teachers who are experienced Mac users and from those who are new to the platform. The new computers certainly are fast!

Each of the ActivBoard classrooms is now equipped with an Apple TV as well, which allows for wireless projection from their MacBook and from the iPads we hope to add soon. The Apple TV wireless projection uses an Apple technology called AirPlay to send video and sound wirelessly from the device to the Apple TV, and the Apple TV is then wired to the projector and board speakers. We've tried it out with a couple of devices, and it's pretty slick! Some teachers are certainly appreciating not having to be "tethered" to one spot in the room with their computer.

I'm looking forward to working more with the teachers on the creativity tools that come along with the Mac OS!
