THE ANIMAL KINGDOM
A major portion of the end of the school year is spent surveying the Animal Kingdom. Many common groupings of Animals will be inspected. For each type of critter, we will investigate their physical structure, habitat, food source, and their importance to humans.
Technology will again be a focal point of our efforts to learn about the Animal Kingdom. Because there is such a volume of animals to learn about, we approach this task with group presentations. Each group will be assigned a section of the Animal Kingdom. The group will produce a PowerPoint presentation that will be given in class. The students will be encouraged to produce a very visual presentation complete with pictures and video clips.
FINAL PROJECT - THE INSECT COLLECTION
The first goal of this class is to increase the students respect and awe for the complexity of life. More so than any other, this project accomplishes this goal. As our course capstone, making a collection is a challenging experience that encompases many of the key concepts and goals that the course emphasizes. Many skills are needed to make a quality collection. The students will have to be organized, responsible, and focused. Any procrastination on this project will be costly to the final product. The specimens will have to be classified using several different resources. Classroom tools will have to be used approprately and returned prudently. Lastly, students are encouraged to work together in mutually beneficial ways.
