1. It is okay to be RESPECTFUL!
A. Behavior that infringes on the rights of others will not be tolerated.
- Respect others physical well being, their feelings, their opinions, and their property.
B. Listen when others are speaking
- This includes your classmates as well as your instructor.
C. Foul language will result in a ½ hour before school.
2.It is okay to be IN SCHOOL.
A. Attendance is directly related to success in the classroom, period.
B. Group work and some labs can not be made up. Once they are missed, they are missed.
3. It is okay to be PREPARED.
A. Be on time. BE IN YOUR SEAT BEFORE THE BELL BEGINS TO SOUND.
- Tardy individuals will be notified by the instructor that they have been marked tardy. 3 unexcused tardies results in a detention. All tardy individuals will automatically loose participation points for the day.
B. Have all needed materials.
C. Set carefully formulated academic goals and strive to achieve them.
D. Exams or SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS (what I will call opportunities…) CAN be retaken. Any FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT can be redone.

4. It is okay to put forth a GOOD EFFORT in class!
A. Be inquisitive, this is the foundation of science! Appropriate questions are always welcome in this room!
B. Use this educational opportunity to spring board into the future.
C. Missing assignments damage grades.
- NOTICE: ALL LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE HALF CREDIT. Communicate extenuating circumstances with me.
- Anything that is not ready when the assignment is called for is late, and unacceptable.
5. It is okay to take care of MAKE UP WORK quickly.
A. Each individual is responsible for making up the work they have missed.
- This includes written assignments, lecture notes, lab activities, quizzes, and exams.
- It is expected that students will use the buddy system to their advantage for make up work!
B. The number of school days you have missed, plus one, are allowed for make up time. Communicate with me!
- This is a school wide policy as written in the student handbook.
Example: I missed class Monday. Therefore, I have until Thursday to make up the things I have missed.
THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP WORK TAKEN THE LAST WEEK OF THE TERM
6. It is okay not to bring FOOD OR DRINKS into the classroom.
A. If it is hot and uncomfortable during the fall or spring, a bottle of water will be acceptable.
7. It is okay not to put CELL PHONES OR ELECTRONIC DEVICES into the red bins in front of the classroom.
A. It is not allowed to have cell phones in our class. Please put your cell phone into a red bin by the door when you walk into room 209.
B. If cell phones are not in the red bins they will be confiscated and taken to the office to be picked up later.
8. It is okay to understand the GRADING POLICY.
A. All assignments, quizzes, projects, and opportunities will be given a point value. All types of points are of equal value and entered into a category. Below you will see the categories and their respective weights on the final grade.
B. In an effort to further emphasis student learning, growth and achievement, we will be utilizing Proficiency Scales for every unit assessed. Proficiency scales seeks to provide grades that are consistent, accurate and meaningful. The way of grading links each set of practice problems, lab activity and assessment to a learning target or standard. Students will be given multiple opportunities to demonstrate their understanding. Grades will mostly be about achievement of the standards. Extra Credit will be offered because it alters student achievement;

This work will receive a certain amount of points; “0” is not submitted. However, these grades are entered for building a body of evidence for comprehension.

These assessments will encompass multiple standards and are also assessed on a Total Points. These are the only assessments used to calculate a student’s final grade
C. The grade scale is as follows:
100% - 90% = A 100-96=A 94-90=A-
89% - 80% = B 89-87=B+ 86-84=B 83-80=B-
79% - 70% = C 79-77=C+ 76-74=C 73-70=C-
69% - 65% = D 69-65=D There will be few (D’s)
Less than 65% = F
