UNIT VII: Evolution
THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION
"There is a grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one; and that, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved." - Charles Darwin (1860)
Education has no topic more controversial than the teaching of the theory of evolution. Students opinions and individual beliefs will be respected throughout our study.
Students will investigate the evidence for the theory of evolution. Instances where pieces of evolutionary evidence have been disproven will be pointed out and used as examples of good science process. Most importantly, the students will be encouraged to develop their own opinion of how the theory of evolution fits into their lives.
For more information about teaching the theory of evolution, The National Association of Biology Teachers has published this statement. NABT STATEMENT
