Assessments

 Information from Gabriel Arellano:

This Fall we are tasked with running three assessments. Two of the assessments focus on two of our four general competencies and another one focuses on as many of the four general competencies as possible.  (NOTE: The four general competencies relevant to our department are Communication Skills, Critical Thinking Skills, Empirical & Quantitative Skills, and Teamwork)

The two assessments that focus on only two of the four are the Written Communication Assessment and the Critical Thinking Assessment, while the other is the Faculty Collaborative.

Core Curriculum Courses (ASTR 1303, 1304, 1403 & 1404, ENGR 1201and PHYS 1401, 1402, 1405, 1407, 2425 & 2426

Faculty who teach any course that is a core curriculum course must run and submit a Written Communication Assessment and a Critical Thinking Assessment for each course you teach that is a core curriculum course. In our department, the core curriculum courses are ASTR 1303, 1304, 1403 & 1404, and PHYS 1401, 1402, 1405, 1407, 2425 & 2426.  If you teach one or more of these courses, please run the Written Communication Assessment and a Critical Thinking Assessment for each one of these courses that you teach.

All of our faculty are required to run the Faculty Collaborative. Since the faculty collaborative focuses on assessing all four general education competencies relevant to our department, a lab report or an essay is a good assignment to tag for the Faculty Collaborative.  You are only required to tag one assignment, but feel free to tag more if you want.
