Utilizing critical reasoning and the nursing process, the student is expected to:
Review & apply principles of respiratory physiology
Review various abnormal breath sounds on a simulation mannequin
Identify factors that influence respiratory function
Demonstrate use of various devices to assist with ventilation and oxygenation and the nursing care of each:
Oxygen masks: simple mask, rebreather mask, venturi mask, trach collar
Nasal cannula: low and high flow
Artificial airways: nasal trumpet and oral airways
Humidification and how it is used with various devices
Ambu bag
Identify patient problems related to oxygenation and ventilation that may be treated by independent nursing interventions
