Our Greek School's Director and Teachers

Helen Angelakos was born and raised in Washington Heights. She and her family were members of the St. Spyridon community where Helen was a student at both the afternoon Greek School and Sunday school. She also taught Sunday School for 15 years. Helen resides in the Murray Hill section of Manhattan with her husband Dean and son Stephen. Stephen is currently a student at Horace Mann. Helen has been the Director of the Greek School for the past 6 years. Professionally, she has worked in various corporate settings for over 20 years, and currently is Director of a prominent private equity investment bank firm running Human Resources. She holds an MBA with honors in Human Resources from Fordham University.

Voula Makrinou is currently teaching in NYC. She has been teaching in Greek day and afternoon schools in New York City for the past twelve years. She has been with the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church since 2003. Voula holds a B.A. and an M.A. from Queens College.

Joanna Stergiou was born and raised in Washington Heights, attended Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church with first generation Greek parents from Kastoria, Greece. She tutored Greek and served as a Sunday school teacher for over 10 years in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church. She is a graduate of Fordham University where she earned her BS in education, as well as honors with a Masters in the Science of Teaching. She is a tenured teacher in the NYC Public School System where she has taught elementary school for over 15 years. She is fluent in Greek and Spanish. Tutors children in elementary Greek language as well. She is returning for her seventh year as a teacher in the Greek School Program of the Annunciation Church.
