Local FFA Students Take Part in State Convention - March 19, 2015; The Alpena News

Local FFA members from Alcona and Alpena counties utilized leadership skills in pursuits of state level competitions at the 87th Michigan FFA State Convention which took place March 11-13 at Michigan State University. From Alcona Community Schools, Morgan Stewart won first place gold in job interview while Maire MacMaster, Rebekah Maturen, Shannon Oliver, Seth Tulgetske, Hannah Riggs, and Mindy Mendyka earned fourth place gold in the parliamentary procedure team competition. Stewart will be moving forward to compete at the national level competition and also was elected to serve as the Michigan Region VI State vice president for the 2015-16 academic year. Additionally, Oliver and Stewart received State FFA Degrees, a fourth year award based on active involvement in the supervised agricultural experience, gold academic excellence, based on grad point averages, and state winning proficiency awards, based on their Supervised Agricultural Experience projects...

Alcona FFA Students Take Part in State Convention - March 18, 2015; Alcona County Review

From March 11 through 13 the Alcona High School FFA participated in the 87th Michigan FFA State Convention. This convention is held annually at Michigan State University and provides FFA members an opportunity to learn leadership skills, experience the state officer's retiring addresses and witness those who have made it to state level competition in their leadership contests... Alcona FFA Members Compete in Regional Leadership Contests! - February 18, 2015

On February 18, 2015 seven Alcona FFA Chapter members participated in two contest areas at the Regional Leadership Contest competition in Whittemore-Prescott. Of the seven FFA members that competed, all are moving on to the State contest level March 11-13, 2015 at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.

• Morgan Stewart (12th) competed in the Job Interview leadership contest, where she placed first and received a gold rating. Morgan will be moving on to the state leadership level for Job Interview. Morgan was also selected to interview as a Michigan FFA State Officer candidate. Morgan was selected to move on to the state level, where we will find out if she was selected as a state officer. There has only been seven FFA members from the Alcona FFA Chapter that have served as State Officers.

Maire MacMaster, Chair (12th), Rebekah Maturen, Secretary (12th), Mindy Mendyka (10th), Hannah Riggs (12th), Seth Tulgetske (12th), Shannon Oliver (12th) competed in the Parliamentary Procedure leadership contest, where they placed first and received a gold rating. The team will be moving on to the state leadership contest level. Four members of the team have been competing together in this contest since their freshman year.

New Kids at Alcona High School - February 11, 2015; Alcona County Review

Five new kids showed up for school Monday morning, despite the school being closed for a snow day. The "kids" are newborn goats currently residing at Alcona High School. Three does were delivered by Addie, a four-year-old goat, on Sunday night. Two bucks were delivered by April, Addie's mother, who is five-years-old, last Friday evening. The goats are the supervised agriculture education (SAE) project by senior FFA member Seth Tulgetske... Alcona FFA Members Compete in District Leadership Contests! - February 4, 2015

On February 4, 2015 twelve FFA members for Alcona competed in the District Leadership Contests held at Alpena High School. Members participated in five different contest areas. Of the twelve participants, seven are moving on to the Regional Leadership Contest competition in Whittemore-Prescot on February 18, 2015. The District Leadership Contest results are as follows:

• Creed Speaking 4th Place (Silver)

Gerianna Herman (9th grade)

• Demonstration 4th Place (Silver)

David Lindsay (10th), Madison Lane (10th) and Madison Whitten (10th)

• Prepared Public Speaking, 3rd Place (Gold)

Jeremy Lickey (11th)

• Job Interview, 1st Place (Gold) *Advancing to Regional Competition

Morgan Stewart (12th)

• Parliamentary Procedure, 1st Place (Gold) *Advancing to Regional Competition

Congratulations, Gerianna Herman for being named the January 2015 Student of the Month at Alcona High School! Gerianna is a Greenhand or first year member of the Alcona FFA Chapter.

Morgan Stewart Receives State 4-H Scholarship Award - January 14, 2015; Alcona County Review

Alcona FFA Chapter member, Morgan Stewart, was recently awarded one of four Michigan 4-H Rabbit and Cavy Scholarships offered by the State 4-H office. Morgan is extremely active in the Alcona County 4-H Youth Development Program and currently serves as the Alcona County 4-H Member of the Year.

Morgan Stewart Places in The Voice of Democracy Scholarship Contest - December 17, 2014; Alcona County Review

Congratulations, Morgan Stewart on placing second in this years voice of democracy scholarship contest! Morgan is the current Sentinel of the Alcona FFA Chapter and President of Region VI of the Michigan FFA. The theme for the essay contest this year was "Why veterans are important to our nation's history and future." The contest was sponsored by the Alcona VFW Post No. 6466.

On May 15 and 16 the Michigan FFA Region VI held its 2014 Leadership Camp at Lost Lake Woods Club in Lincoln. The 2014-2015 FFA Chapter Officers for Alcona attended the leadership camp where officers took part in trainings, team building and leadership exercises. The final event of camp was the election and installation of the 2014-2015 Michigan FFA Region VI Officer Team. Two officers from the Alcona FFA Chapter were elected as Regional officers. Morgan Stewart was elected as President and Jeremy Lickey was elected as Reporter. Congratulations Morgan and Jeremy!
