Muscle Stimulation or faradic stimulation & galvanic stimulation is a modality of electrotherapy where we artificially provide a stimulus to an inactive muscle or group of muscles which have become Atrophied over time due to pain or loss of innervation.

This modality has been widely used in strength training post surgery also and in patients with post traumatic or surgical neurological abnormalities/denervation. The response is gradual but by the time neural recovery takes place partially or completely, the muscle that the nerve suppies is not atrophic. The patients have good to excellent functional rehabilitation with nerve recovery. The modality forms the most important part of neuro-physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
