Human Centered Design and Customer Research

In step 1 of the design process, we had to research our potential customer base and create a list of things that they would demand or just want. This meant researching problems with current products, as well as desirable features. To conclude this segment of the design process, we sent out a survey both to the robotics team and to a PC-centered sub-Reddit with about 5.7 million people. Unfortunately, the number of responses was lacking nonetheless.

Reflection

This phase of our design process, although drawn out, was successful. We evaluated our perceived customer base and came up with a list of demands and wishes. To do that, we had to demonstrate Cultural Competence. Then, we also had to think of potential solutions to those demands and wishes. That was the Critical Thinking component of this design phase.

However, as always, time management was something of a struggle. As such, Conscientious Learner qualities were not strongly demonstrated. Also, with some of us doing a disproportionate amount of work compared to others, it becomes difficult to remain empathetic and demonstrate good Character.
