2021 - Canary Craftivist Project

The Canary Craftivist Project: A climate campaign for non-activists and crafters. The concept is to take a gentle, positive approach to climate activism, connecting with the COP26 Summit being hosted by Britain in Glasgow.

The Marist College Craft Group picked up this creative challenge for its 2nd project of the year.

Then COVID Delta Lockdown struck and on August 18th, we were confined to home! No more attending school, no more attending craft group sessions!

But, it didn't stop our resolve....old school shirts still got recycled into capes, collars of fabric feathers were created and very cool canary masks were constructed for every garment

When we were able to go back to school, senior students only, 3rd of November was our "Flock Together Time".

What a buzz, we did it, we got there! Members of Craft Group and wonderful staff members.

Now, I, of course delivered my own CdG inspired Craftivist Canary Collar, with the help of a few feathers from our duster! And on the back I embroidered "Canaries caring for the air need it clean need it clear"

I do love the mask

When we were in lockdown, I sent my own yellow canary connection to Craftivist-Collective to make connection with what they were doing. This was the image I delivered, which I hoped displayed climate change effect repercussions

And this was the message I emailed to Jacinda Adern and James Shaw

This is a link to the post of our "Gathering in a flock", which is on the Craftivist Collective Group Facebook page. Sarah Corbett wrote such an affirming comment.
